Yellow Bike seeks dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to join its board of directors.
The Yellow Bike Project is a 501c nonprofit with a mission to EMPOWER individuals through life changing transportation, by providing workspace and tools, and cultivating enthusiastic community participation to advance our vision, EDUCATE people wanting to learn about bicycles and bicycle maintenance, and REVIVE bicycles to get them on the streets of Austin and make them available to all.
In 2023, we celebrated our twenty-sixth anniversary, refurbished and got 1,700 bikes back on the streets of Austin (many through our community partners), organized 9,000 volunteer hours across 700 volunteers. Yellow Bike supports a staff of 9 and has an operating budget of $400,000. More information can be found in our 2023 annual report.
The board seeks 4+ individuals with diverse skills and experiences. Candidates with fundraising, communication, partnership, finance, human resources, project management, event planning and/or volunteer recruitment and retention experience are strongly encouraged to apply via this questionnaire We strongly value the lived experience and local knowledge and will prioritize those connected to communities of color, social service organizations and community centers. This is a governance and working board, so will involve both high level strategy and operational realities.
Commitments
- Currently, the Yellow Bike Board is a policy and working board and members are expected to chair or serve on 2 committees, and attend monthly board meetings (first Tuesday of the month from 7-9 pm).
- Average monthly time commitments from board members is 8-12+ hours
- 2-year term of office
Responsibilities
- Ensure a professional and strategic direction for the organization.
- Stabilize and build resources (both fiscal and human) for programs that fulfill the organization’s strategic planning effort.
- Foster cohesiveness between the staff and volunteers, in support of a happy, supported and enthusiastic community.
