NEW PROGRAM

Transit Empowerment Fund Supports YBP’s New Program!

For many in Austin, the most challenging part of a bus journey is the distance to and from the stop. This “first and last mile” gap can block access to jobs, healthcare, and other essential services.

A bicycle offers a simple and effective solution, but a broken bike in a “repair desert” leaves riders stranded.

With support from the Transit Empowerment Fund, we are launching a new two-year pilot program to tackle this issue. We will partner with local organizations to establish community-run bike repair hubs and train residents as skilled mechanics. This ensures that critical skills and tools remain within the community for the long term.

The insights gained from this pilot will guide our efforts to expand the model to other underserved areas across Austin.

We are very grateful to the Transit Empowerment Fund for this opportunity and look forward to amplifying our impact all over Austin!
