We are kicking off Bicycle Month on May 1 with a new look, a new logo, and a new user-friendly website with content in both Spanish and English!
Our new website is the result of a wonderful vision and collaboration between Duda Teo, a multidisciplinary graphic designer, visual artist, and transgender artivist (activist artist) from Brazil, and Alicja Czajka, a web designer, web developer, and Austinite.
We would like to express our deep gratitude to Maria Vela, Spanish language translator for our new website. She is also the communications & administration assistant for our community partner, Todos Juntos. We would also like to thank Deborah Barak, the documentary photographer who is behind all the wonderful photos of our community members on bikes that you can see on our new website.
Last, but not least, big kudos to Raquel Ortega and Nona Allen, our dear partners and community and bicycle groups leaders of Ride Bikes Austin and Critical Mass Austin. Raquel and Nona helped us bring the bike community together to honor Yellow Bike’s contribution to strengthening biking culture in Austin, which was documented by the photographer Deborah Barak.
Yellow Bike (Project) was created by the Austin community and for the Austin community, which is why we wanted all the communities we have served for 26 years to feel represented and welcome. We hope that our new website will help us achieve that goal, as we continue putting more bikes on the streets of our beloved city.
Oh, and it’s just ‘Yellow Bike’ now. As part of our growth, we are leaving ‘Project’ behind. Our name and look may be changing, but our heart is still the same!
A few words about our new look from the creators & collaborators:
The website was designed in a broad and deep way, working as an extension of the branding process recently experienced by Yellow Bike. In addition to translating the values and essence of the brand, the website was based on simple, friendly and intuitive navigation. We did a lot of work together, involving Yellow Bike and the developer throughout the entire process. The union of different knowledge allowed a very sensitive and refined look at the experience that we would like to provide to the users. One of the premises of the design was simplicity and essentiality of graphic elements, emphasizing the brand assets and the images, which portray real people benefited by the project. I am proud of the whole journey and very happy to be able to act in such a profound way in a project that is so important when you think about community, social justice and climate change.
Bringing the new Yellow Bike website to life has been an amazing journey! I was fortunate to collaborate with a great team, and we are all proud of the final result! The main goal of this project was to create a functional website that is easy to navigate, user-friendly, informative, and provides an excellent experience across all devices. We wanted visitors to easily gather information about the Yellow Bike programs, as well as understand their vision and values in a user-friendly and intuitive manner. The new website is packed with features and integrations to encourage engagement and connection between the visitors and the organization. Plus, making sure the website is built in a way that the Yellow Bike team can easily make updates and changes ensures that the information remains current and up-to-date at all times. As a passionate Austinite, I really enjoy working on projects where I can apply my skills to organizations that help the community thrive. Nonprofits like Yellow Bike are one of the reasons I love what I do, and I look forward to watching them continue to grow.
At Todos Juntos we say, “Language Shouldn’t be a Barrier,” and we mean it! The ability to provide information and resources in both English and Spanish is truly a game-changer, opening up a world of possibilities for so many individuals who may have previously felt excluded. Having a website that is available in both languages can help ensure that more individuals are able to understand the amazing services, programs and opportunities that Yellow Bike has available for the community. I am honored to be part of this transition into a new, more inclusive website, which I am sure will help connect more community members with the resources they need to improve their lives, learn new skills and earn their own bikes!

The brief I was given was to create photographs that would tell true stories of Austinites whose lives had been touched by Yellow Bike; to depict a diverse biking community in order to represent, empower and welcome everyone. Well it wasn’t a difficult thing to accomplish, because “community” is at the center of everything that Yellow Bike does. Over the hours I spent with Yellow Bike on social rides and gatherings, at workshops and giveaways, that sense of community and warm-hearted inclusion was ever present and translated itself right into the camera. I am so proud to be a part of the team and have my work serve this essential project and mission. Onwards and Upwards Yellow Bike!

Our riders, volunteers, leaders, and organizers are diverse because we take steps to ensure people that have different ethnicities, religions, gender identities, national origins, sexual orientations, marital statuses, disabilities, and ages from one another feel welcome riding with us. Our groups and rides are inclusive because we welcome everyone that joins us with mutual respect, especially allowing and accommodating people who have historically been excluded because of their race, gender, sexuality, or ability. We were honored when we were asked to help with bringing people that ride bikes together so that our focus on diversity and inclusion, which is aligned with Yellow Bike’s mission, could be captured in images. We are excited about the website becoming easier to use and feel that more people in Austin will be empowered to become a part of the Yellow Bike community when they see themselves represented on the page. Way to go Yellow Bike!!
