Learn basic bike maintenance with Yellow Bike’s volunteer mechanics.
Introductory classes are free for the City of Austin employees.
OUR Introductory Classes:
Basic Bike Maintenance (101)
Learn how to fix a flat, properly inflate tires, evaluate tire condition, when and how to clean and lubricate your chain, and check for chain and brake pad wear. Participants will have hands-on time to do basic repairs and will leave with knowledge, tire levers, and a patch kit.

Derailleurs & Shifting (102)
The derailleur moves the chain to change into different gears. Learn how it works! Attendees may bring their bikes to the class and will have 30 minutes to work on them.

Brake Basics (103)
In this class we will cover 3 types of rim brakes: v-brakes, caliper and cantilever brakes. Attendees will have 30-40 minutes of hands-on time for a brake tune up.

In the center of the wheel is the hub. Learn how to take it apart and put it back together! Attendees will have 30-40 minutes of hands-on practice.

The headset allows you to steer the bike; learn how to overhaul it. This class will cover threaded and threadless headset with standard bearings.
