The Austin Yellow Bike Project (YBP) is a community supported ALL-VOLUNTEER 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing human-powered transportation for the people of Austin, running a community bike shop, and educating kids and adults. Building up at Webberville - We have now reached "substantial completion" which is where the contractor hands us the keys to the building (view pictures). That means it's just about time for Yellow Bike volunteers to come in and finish things up by building the pergola, the deck out front, and all the new shelves and work stations. We have secured our funding, but can certainly use all the donations the generous bicycling community is able to give to help us begin to pay off our loans quickly. You can chip in through a Donation on our Donate page. We'll also be calling work parties soon to finish out the shop, so stay tuned for opportunities to help out. Sign up to volunteer to help finish out the building here. Last month for the Monroe Shop! - We will be moving out of the Monroe shop at the end of February to make room for SXSW festivities. Because our Webberville shop will be open shortly we have decided to focus all of our energies there. We are thankful to the Austin Musicians' Health Clinic that provided the space since August.
PBS Documentary about our human powered move and moving forward towards our new shop (view documentary) -
This is
documentary of
Austin Yellow Bike Project's most recent (June 21st, 2008) human-
powered move. This time we moved our big 4500
sq .ft. headquarters into storage trailers on the site of what will be
our new, improved headquarters, which we hope to have completed by Spring 2009. If you'd like to help make this happen, please come by our small satellite shop at 1720 East 12th St during open hours, or if you'd like to donate some cash to the cause, you can do so here .
